reasons for African attitude

Several weeks ago I went to the Africa night and the performances. I o not remember the name of the band that performed but the beginner/lead singer of the band explained that the reason for the upbeat, lively and joyous music is because of the trials that they have faced and overcome. For example, the lead singer explained that he had been exiled from Zimbabwe for his objection to government . he sings uplifting songs to celebrate overcoming, the same is for the bright colors of Africa. Africa is a country that has seen many tough times. but they celebrate their culture and their accomplishments with triumphant music.
