According to the United Nations, 5,000 women and girls are victims of the so-called honour killings annually. A member of the minority Kurdish Yezidi group. She was stoned to death for falling in love. Women are usually stoned for many reasons, if they were seen talking to a man, refusing an arranged marriage, or even suffering from rape. They are murdered because they are looked as if they have brought shame to their family.

The family is usually carries out the sentence to the women. One country that is popular for stoning is Jordan. The law sanctions the practice of stoning. According to their criminal code relatives who kill a woman that is accused of shameful behavior only receive a light sentence, or they dodge the whole punishment.

These stoning is still supported in some parts of the country. It is said that about 60 women are victims of “honour killings” in Turkey every year. After reading this article, it made me realize how uncivilized other countries still are. I had no idea that stoning was still going on. It is awful to even imagine that women all over the world have to go through with this, and there is absolutely nothing that they can do.
