Old Education in Saudi Arabia

In the past Saudi Arabia has a different education than now. The education was based on a religious man who teaches the boys from the same neighborhood how to read the holy book “Quran” in his house. These men who teach the Quran are called “Ktateeb”. They started teach in this way from the beginning of Islamic religion. They take from the families of the children a food, clothes or a little pit of money as a wage. The 8-year children have to go to the “Ktateeb”; they are forced by their family to go and study in the Ktateeb. The religious man teaches the children until they memorize a part of the Quran or whole of it. The Ktateeb can punish who doesn't memorize by hit him in his foot. My grandpa told me about the Ktateeb and who he was hit by the Mola, the religious man. Now my grandpa can read and hardly write because of the Ktateeb. After my grandpa generation the schools showed up and the education comes like most of countries a 6-years elementary then 3 middle then high school after that the undergrad school.
Here is a video clips about where the singer remember the past education.
