another medical/anthro post
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1375463/Hole-head-How-medieval-soldiers-survived-battle-thanks-early-day-brain-surgery.html?ITO=1490 Once again with going into the medical field i found this article very intersting. The article describes how some medieval soldiers may have had some sort of early day brain surgery that both increased their chances of living after a battle and often increased their life spans afterwards.. especially after severe trauma to the head. The researchers studied the fragments of their skulls to find that they were relatively smooth comared to what they would have been if they had just suffered dramatic blows to the head by sharp objects, indicating that some sort of medical intervention to the skull/brain had to have occured. One solider had even lived after having a 2 inch hole in his head caused by battling! I just find it very intersting on what they can discover about medical procedures and well, almost anything by studying the remains of the deceased and their belongings.
