On Thursday March 30th I went and listened to Anne Coulter speak! I was extremely excited about this because she is a very smart lady and addresses all sorts of different issues. I figured she would only talk about politics and why she disagrees with liberals, but she spent a portion of the time talking about the culture in America, and then went to discuss if further in the question and answer portion. This part of the speech became relevant to this class. She talk about "social norms" in America and related it back to how the social norm of politics from a liberal point of view is to always be politically correct and not to offend anyone. I had to agree with her on this because it seems like in today’s society people are so concerned of hurting or offending someone that they do not actually say what they are truly thinking. I personally feel that the government would be much better off if people didn’t have to worry about offending someone, or some sort of group. During the question and answer portion someone asked her a question regarding her views on the right for women to vote, she again went back to the "social norm" that has seem to reveal itself. I again had to agree with her stance because she gave facts about a certain group of women such as those who are single, uneducated, and those whom have children they cannot afford to take care; this is the group who vote for the government groups that give them money! It has become a system of certain people receive all the benefits, but feel none of the negatives. That is not what our country was founded on, and that has now seemingly become a norm in our country. Our culture has gone from being found on values, truths, and hard work to screwing anyone over to get a dollar. I feel like Anne addressed these issues in a fair way, she may be very brutal but she is a very smart woman who makes good points for her accusations.
